| Artist Statement |

Start with the Form

The “Maiden in Hat Series” starts with the form, and the inner essence of art creation is reached in depth with the most superficial perceptions of the forms including shape, media, texture, and color. Through the process of a deal of experiments, I accomplish extreme seeking and exploring of the pure visual aesthetics. I re-acquaint myself with the superficial painting surfaces and on them the materials and the forms. I make the most superficial and shallowest personal interpretations of visual art and learn the basis of that again, meanwhile provide the work with the minimum and the maximum of definitions. (Visual arts must be represented through forms eventually.)

Zi Xing Qing Jing Yuan Ming Ti: Return to the Essence of Mind

The hat on the maiden is similar to the circular halo that surrounds the Buddha. The Buddha is the Supremely Enlightened One, and the noumenon and an icon of consummation, wisdom, tranquility, equality, and enlightenment. The Buddha’s halo, as “the Essence of Mind”, “Silent Illumination”, and “Zi Xing Qing Jing Yuan Ming Ti”, stands for one’s true self. “Maiden in Hat” connect the ego in the phenomenal world and the id with the most basic shapes. With the simplest form, the idea of perfect and infinite wisdom is represented.

│創作自述│

從形式出發──「戴帽的少女」系列作品從形式出發,藉由最淺薄的感官造型認知(包括造型、材料、質感、肌理、色彩……等)來深入藝術創作的內在本質,並透過一連串實驗的過程來完成對於純粹視覺美感的極致追尋和探究,這是對最淺薄的、表面的「繪畫底材」(包含其自身)其上的這些物質與形式的「再一次認識」,亦再一次賦予自身對視覺藝術做一個最表層以及最膚淺的詮釋與「基礎認識」,同時也賦予其最低限與最極限的意義(視覺藝術終須透過形式來呈現)。

自性清淨圓明體.回歸自性──少女戴帽的造型猶如佛陀頭上的圓形光環,佛陀是大圓滿覺悟的人,亦是圓滿、智慧、清靜、平等、覺的本體與象徵,佛陀頂上的光環猶如「自性」,「常寂光」,「自性清靜圓明體」,這是我們的本來面目。「戴帽的少女」透過最為簡單的造型連結表象世界的自我與真實本我,將圓滿的無量智慧由最淺顯、單純的形式來表達。
